Claviere and the Alpine border live

The webcam shows Claviere, a village in the upper Susa Valley close to Montgenèvre Pass and the French border.

The image shows snow, cloud and light on the Monti della Luna slopes. The village is gathered along the road leading over the pass.

Its position makes Claviere a link between the Via Lattea ski area and the Durance Valley.

History and local identity

Montgenèvre has been crossed since antiquity and was one of the main routes through the western Alps. Fortifications and military works reflect the strategic importance of the border in modern times.
