Etna South and Rifugio Sapienza live

The webcam looks over the Rifugio Sapienza area on Mount Etna’s southern slope above Nicolosi.

The view shows visibility, snow, cloud and conditions across the volcanic landscape. The presence or absence of visible activity never replaces information from the competent authorities.

Old lava flows, secondary cones and vegetation changing with altitude make the Etna South landscape easy to recognise.

History and local identity

Nicolosi grew on the slopes of the volcano and its history has been marked by eruptions and rebuilding. Today the town is one of the main gateways to Etna Park.
